The Aspen Ideas Festival is the Aspen Institute's flagship week of talks, held in late June. In 2026 it ran **June 25 – July 1**, with **Aspen Ideas: Health June 22–25** just before it. The **2027 dates have not been announced** yet. What is already certain: **Aspen/Pitkin County Airport is closed from April 4 to November 19, 2027**, so everyone arrives through Eagle, Rifle or Denver. That is the part we handle.

Festival details from aspenideas.org (2026 edition) and airport dates from aspenairport.com, checked October 1, 2026. We will update this page when the 2027 dates are published.

## Dates and passes

- **2027 dates**: Not yet announced (checked October 1, 2026). The festival has run in the last week of June; plan around late June and confirm before booking.
- **2026 pattern**: Aspen Ideas: Health June 22–25; Aspen Ideas Festival June 25 – July 1, split into Festival 1 (June 25–28) and Festival 2 (June 28 – July 1), with a patron level for the full ten days.
- **Where**: The Aspen Institute's campus at the Aspen Meadows, a few minutes from downtown Aspen.

## The airport is closed. Plan the arrival first.

- **Aspen (ASE)**: Closed from April 4 to November 19, 2027 for runway reconstruction: no commercial or private flights.
- **Eagle (EGE)**: About 70 miles from Aspen, roughly an hour and a half by car. The likely main gateway for commercial flights.
- **Rifle (RIL)**: About 65 miles, around an hour and a quarter; the usual choice for private aircraft.
- **Denver (DEN)**: About 3½ to 4 hours by road. In summer Independence Pass is normally open, which shortens the drive and makes it beautiful; I-70 and Glenwood Springs is the fallback.
- **Other events**: The closure is already moving events: the Aspen Security Forum announced it will not be held in Aspen in 2027. Check your event's own announcements.

## Rooms and houses for festival week

- **Book early, and closer to the Meadows**: Festival week fills Aspen's hotels and the best rentals early. A house within walking or short driving distance of the Meadows saves the daily shuttle question.
- **Arriving the day before**: With a drive from Eagle, Rifle or Denver, arriving the evening before the first session avoids starting the week on the road.
