# Aspen in November 2026 > Aspen in November 2026: opening day on Thanksgiving (Nov 26), NOAA weather and snowfall, what's open before and after, and how to plan the first week of winter. Canonical page: https://aspenprive.com/aspen-in-november/ Updated: 2026-10-02 · Publisher: Aspen Privé (local Aspen stay planning and concierge) November in Aspen is a month of two halves. Until Thanksgiving the town is in its shoulder season: **lifts closed, early snow arriving, and the quietest weeks of the year**. Then on **Thursday, November 26, 2026**, Aspen Mountain and Snowmass open for the 2026–27 season, and Thanksgiving week becomes the first busy week of the winter. Season dates are from Aspen Snowmass; weather is NOAA's 1991–2020 climate normals for the Aspen 1 SW station. Checked October 2, 2026. Normals are averages: early-season snow varies a great deal from year to year. ## November weather and snow - **Average high**: 42°F. - **Average low**: 19°F. - **Snowfall**: 20.5 inches in town in an average November; 2.09 inches of precipitation. - **In practice**: Mild, bright days and cold nights early in the month; real winter usually settles in by late November. Opening day depends on natural snow and snowmaking, not the calendar alone. ## Arriving for opening week? (what Aspen Privé arranges) We meet you at the airport, stock the kitchen, have rentals fitted at the house and book Thanksgiving dinner, or a chef to cook it at home. [Tell us your dates](https://aspenprive.com/contact.html?service=opening-week). ## Before and after opening day - **Until November 25**: Shoulder season: no lift-served skiing. Some restaurants and shops take their break or keep shorter hours before the season. It's a good month for a quiet stay, spas and dinners without a wait, not for a ski trip. - **November 26**: Opening day at Aspen Mountain and Snowmass, which is also Thanksgiving Day. - **December 12**: Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk open, so in November only two of the four mountains are scheduled. - **December 4**: Last day of early pricing on 2026–27 season passes, per Aspen Snowmass. - **The road**: Independence Pass closes for the winter in November (it closed November 17 last season), so the drive from Denver is I-70 and Glenwood Springs. ## How busy, and when - **Early November: the quietest weeks**: Few visitors and easy tables. The trade-off is that the mountains are closed and some places are too. - **Thanksgiving week: the first rush**: Opening day and the holiday land together. Atlantic Aviation has flagged extra ramp congestion at Aspen from November 25 to 29, and the Wednesday is the heaviest travel day. - **Early-season terrain**: On opening weekend expect a limited number of open runs, much of it on snowmaking. Treat skiing as part of the trip, not the whole point, and keep the plan flexible. ## What to book now for late November - **Thanksgiving dinner**: Hotel Thanksgiving dinners were already taking reservations in late September. Or have a private chef cook at the house. [Private chef](https://aspenprive.com/private-chef-aspen/) - **The arrival car**: Wednesday and Thursday arrivals cluster. Book the car with the flights, and have a plan if an Aspen flight diverts to Eagle. [When flights divert](https://aspenprive.com/aspen-flight-cancellations/) - **Rentals and a first lesson**: Opening week is quieter than Christmas for lessons, but children's first day of the season goes better with skis fitted at the house. [Ski rental delivery](https://aspenprive.com/ski-rental-delivery-aspen/) ## What to pack for November Layers rather than one heavy coat: days in the 40s, nights below 20°F. Waterproof boots for slush in town, a warm hat and gloves, sunglasses and sunscreen (the sun is strong at nearly 8,000 feet), and full ski gear if you're coming for opening week. [The full packing list](https://aspenprive.com/what-to-pack-for-aspen/). ## Opening weekend, Thursday to Sunday - **Wednesday**: Arrive before the afternoon rush; the kitchen is stocked, the rentals fitted, a quiet dinner in. - **Thursday**: Opening day: first chair on Aspen Mountain or Snowmass for the keen, a slow morning for the rest; Thanksgiving dinner out, or a chef at the house. - **Friday**: A short ski morning on the open terrain, then a spa afternoon. [Aspen spas](https://aspenprive.com/aspen-spas/) - **Saturday**: Ski early; a long lunch; dinner in town. - **Sunday**: A last morning run and an early car to the airport. ## Month by month, this season - **December**: [Aspen in December](https://aspenprive.com/aspen-in-december/): Wintersköl, then the Christmas–New Year peak. - **January**: [Aspen in January](https://aspenprive.com/aspen-in-january/): Deep winter, Gay Ski Week and X Games. - **February**: [Aspen in February](https://aspenprive.com/aspen-in-february/): Peak snow, Presidents' week, Palm Tree and the Grand Prix. - **March**: [Aspen in March](https://aspenprive.com/aspen-in-march/): Spring break, Easter and the run to closing day. - **Every month**: [Aspen weather by month](https://aspenprive.com/aspen-weather-by-month/) · [Best time to visit](https://aspenprive.com/best-time-to-visit-aspen/) · [The 2026–27 events calendar](https://aspenprive.com/aspen-events-calendar/) ## Questions **Does it snow in Aspen in November?** Yes.
