# Snow, without needing a ski day. > Snowshoeing in Aspen and Snowmass: choose a naturalist tour or an appropriate winter route, confirm equipment and lift needs, and plan around your group. Canonical page: https://aspenprive.com/aspen-snowshoeing/ Updated: 2026-10-02 · Publisher: Aspen Privé (local Aspen stay planning and concierge) A guided snowshoe outing can give a non-skier a real mountain experience. Start with **the terrain, the pace and who is leading it**. A resort naturalist tour is different from heading into winter backcountry; neither should be treated as simply walking in ordinary shoes. ## A naturalist tour with a defined plan Aspen Center for Environmental Studies publishes winter naturalist tours in Aspen and Snowmass. Check the current tour page for meeting points, dates, equipment, reservations and any lift-ticket requirements. That defined format is a useful starting point for visitors who want to learn about the winter landscape. Choose the tour around the least experienced guest and their comfort with cold, altitude and walking in snow. Ask the organizer about the actual terrain and pace rather than assume every outing suits every age. ## Three different levels of commitment - **A guided resort outing**: A published meeting point and a leader familiar with the setting. Confirm the full ticket and equipment requirements before arrival. - **A maintained local route**: Check current grooming or trail conditions, permitted use and equipment. A summer walking route is not automatically a winter snowshoe recommendation. - **Winter backcountry**: A separate mountain-safety undertaking requiring appropriate expertise and current hazard assessment. We do not turn it into a casual concierge activity. ## Warmth, time and the rest of the group - **Clothing**: Follow the organizer’s guidance on boots, layers, gloves and sun protection. Ask whether snowshoes and poles are supplied. - **Time**: Allow for getting to the meeting point, ticketing or equipment and the return, not just the tour’s walking time. - **Non-participants**: Give anyone staying in town an intentional plan; a snowshoe outing need not be mandatory for the whole party. - **Weather**: Check the organizer’s cancellation and rescheduling terms and keep an indoor alternative that you would enjoy. ## A winter day can stay simple A warm lunch, time at the residence or a [massage](https://aspenprive.com/in-home-massage-aspen/) can be a better finish than immediately starting another excursion. [Our non-skier guide](https://aspenprive.com/aspen-for-non-skiers/) puts the day into the wider stay. Send dates, number and ages of guests, walking experience, lodging address and whether transport is needed. The tour organizer operates the outing; I can coordinate the agreed Aspen logistics. No guiding, private allocation or guaranteed snow conditions are claimed. ## Questions **Do we need a lift ticket for a snowshoe tour?** It depends on the tour. Check the current organizer’s inclusions and meeting point; do not assume the ticket is included. **Can non-skiers join?** That is often the point, but the organizer must confirm suitability for each guest and the actual tour. **Is winter backcountry just another snowshoe walk?** No. It is a different safety undertaking and needs appropriate expertise and current hazard assessment. **Can you arrange transport to the meeting point?** We can coordinate it within the approved scope once the organizer confirms where and when to meet. ## What Aspen Privé can arrange for this Arrange the details around the day, with one contact here in Aspen. - [A day out, planned](https://aspenprive.com/contact.html?service=day-out): Reservations, timing, a driver and a picnic for Maroon Bells or a day in the valley, arranged around your group. - [A driver for the evening](https://aspenprive.com/contact.html?service=evening-driver) (From $210 per hour): A car and driver on call for dinner and the night out, so nobody hunts for a taxi at midnight. - [In-home massage](https://aspenprive.com/in-home-massage-aspen/) (From $425 per 60 minutes): A therapist at the residence after travel or skiing. ## Sources (checked October 2, 2026) - [Aspen Center for Environmental Studies: winter naturalist tours](https://aspennature.org/naturalist-programs/winter-naturalist-tours/) - [ACES: Aspen Mountain snowshoe tour](https://aspennature.org/activity/aspen-mountain-snowshoe-tour/) - [ACES: independent private naturalist tours](https://aspennature.org/activity/private-snowshoe-tour/) ## Related - [A winter without skis](https://aspenprive.com/aspen-for-non-skiers/): Give every guest a good day. - [Another winter pace](https://aspenprive.com/aspen-cross-country-skiing/): Nordic options in context. - [The wider winter stay](https://aspenprive.com/things-to-do-in-aspen-in-winter/): Choose the right activities.
