# Aspen vs Jackson Hole > Aspen or Jackson Hole? Both on the Ikon Pass. Four mountains and a lively town vs one steep, deep-snow mountain beside Grand Teton National Park. Canonical page: https://aspenprive.com/aspen-vs-jackson-hole/ Updated: 2026-10-02 · Publisher: Aspen Privé (local Aspen stay planning and concierge) Both are on the **Ikon Pass** (7 days each on the full Ikon). **Aspen** is **four mountains** (about **5,480 acres**) for every level around a historic town. **Jackson Hole** is **2,500 acres** with **4,139 ft** of vertical and terrain the resort describes as 50% expert, famous for its tram and deep snow. Mountain statistics are each resort's published figures; pass and travel details from the resorts, Ikon, Epic and the airports. Checked October 2, 2026. ## The numbers - **Terrain**: Aspen: four mountains on one ticket, about 5,480 acres combined (Snowmass alone 3,362). Jackson Hole: 2,500 in-bounds acres, 131 named trails (resort: 50% expert, 40% intermediate, 10% beginner). - **Summit**: Aspen: Snowmass 12,510 ft, Highland Bowl 12,392 ft. Jackson Hole: 10,450 ft; base 6,311 ft. - **Vertical**: Aspen: Snowmass 4,406 ft; Highlands 4,342 ft with the Bowl. Jackson Hole: 4,139 ft. - **Lifts**: Jackson Hole: 16 lifts, including the 100-passenger aerial tram. - **Pass (2026–27)**: Aspen Snowmass: Ikon (7 days combined on the full Ikon Pass). Jackson Hole: Ikon (7 days on the full Ikon Pass). - **Airport**: Aspen: its own airport (ASE), about 3 miles from town. Jackson Hole: Jackson Hole Airport (JAC); the resort lists it about 36 minutes away, with nonstops from 13 cities. ## How you arrive - **The journey**: Jackson Hole is in Wyoming: the resort lists about eight hours by road from Denver and five from Salt Lake City, so almost everyone flies into JAC. Aspen is about four hours from Denver in winter, or a short flight into ASE. - **Aspen's airport**: ASE is a few minutes from town, with commercial and private flights. It closes April 4 to November 19, 2027 for runway work, so late-season spring trips should check dates. [Airport closure](https://aspenprive.com/aspen-airport-closure-2027/). ## The town and the evenings - **Aspen**: A Victorian mining town with a real year-round life: restaurants led by a Michelin star, galleries, the Aspen Art Museum and a late après scene. [Aspen restaurants](https://aspenprive.com/aspen-restaurants/). - **Jackson**: A western town 12 miles from the resort, with Teton Village at the base. Strong lodging and a growing dining scene; the evenings are quieter than Aspen's. - **Non-skiers**: Aspen gives non-skiers more to do: spas, shopping, snowshoeing and sleigh dinners. [Aspen for non-skiers](https://aspenprive.com/aspen-for-non-skiers/). ## What it costs - **Passes**: If you already hold Ikon or Epic, the pass often decides the trip. Window tickets at both are expensive; check each resort's current prices for your dates. - **Lodging**: Aspen is consistently one of the most expensive ski towns in North America, especially over the holidays. We don't publish average prices we can't verify. You keep the relationship. We handle Aspen. ## Questions **Is Aspen or Jackson Hole better?** For expert skiers chasing steeps, many prefer Jackson Hole. For mixed groups, non-skiers and evenings out, Aspen is the better fit. **Are Aspen and Jackson Hole on the same pass?** Yes. Both are on the Ikon Pass: 7 days each on the full Ikon Pass for 2026–27. **Is Jackson Hole good for beginners?** The resort describes its terrain as about 10% beginner. Aspen's Buttermilk is one of the gentlest places in Colorado to learn. **Which is harder to ski, Aspen or Jackson Hole?** Jackson Hole has more consistently steep terrain overall. Aspen's hardest skiing is at Highlands and Highland Bowl. ## What Aspen Privé can arrange for this Arrival, skis, the house and the evenings, handled locally. - [Private airport transfer](https://aspenprive.com/aspen-airport-transportation/) (From $195 per vehicle): From Aspen's airport to the door in a private SUV, timed to your actual landing. - [Ski rental delivered](https://aspenprive.com/ski-rental-delivery-aspen/): Fitted at the residence, not in a shop queue. - [Grocery stocking](https://aspenprive.com/grocery-stocking-aspen/): The kitchen stocked to your list before you land. - [A driver for the evening](https://aspenprive.com/contact.html?service=evening-driver) (From $210 per hour): A car and driver on call for dinner and the night out, so nobody hunts for a taxi at midnight. ## Sources (checked October 2, 2026) - [Aspen Snowmass: Snowmass mountain](https://www.aspensnowmass.com/four-mountains/snowmass) - [Aspen Snowmass: Ikon Pass FAQ](https://www.aspensnowmass.com/partner-passes/ikon-pass/ikon-pass-faq) - [Aspen/Pitkin County Airport: guide](https://www.aspenairport.com/airport-guide/) - [Jackson Hole Mountain Resort: mountain stats](https://www.jacksonhole.com/mountain-stats) - [Ikon Pass: destinations](https://www.ikonpass.com/en/destinations) ## Related - [Aspen's four mountains](https://aspenprive.com/aspen-four-mountains-which-one/): Which one for whom. - [Aspen on the Ikon Pass](https://aspenprive.com/aspen-ikon-pass/): Days, blackouts and how to use them. - [What an Aspen trip costs](https://aspenprive.com/aspen-trip-cost/): Where the money goes.
