Private jet from Miami to Aspen

Four hours and change from South Florida. The constraints are all at the Aspen end, and they decide the aircraft before anything else does.

Most pages about this route describe the aircraft cabin. The cabin is rarely the problem. What determines whether your trip works is a 95-foot wingspan limit, a curfew tied to sunset, and one runway at 7,820 feet.

This page covers what actually governs a Miami to Aspen private flight, and what we handle once you are on the ground. Aspen Privé is not an aircraft operator or a charter broker. We live and work in Aspen, we coordinate everything around your stay here, and we can introduce you to established charter operators when you need the flight itself arranged.

IThe Route

At a glance

Distance
≈ 1,540–1,560 nautical miles Roughly 1,770 to 1,795 statute miles, depending on which South Florida field you depart. Published figures for this route vary widely because nautical and statute miles are frequently mixed up. These are great-circle distances calculated from published airport coordinates; actual routing is longer.
Block time
≈ 3h45 – 4h30 westbound The eastbound return is normally faster. Winds aloft across the route move this meaningfully in winter, so treat any single published number with suspicion.
Nonstop
Yes, for most midsize and super-midsize aircraft There is no scheduled commercial nonstop between Miami and Aspen, which is much of why this route is flown privately at all.
Arrival airport
Aspen/Pitkin County (ASE) Three miles from downtown Aspen. One FBO on the field. Alternates are Rifle (RIL), Eagle County (EGE) and Grand Junction (GJT).
Governing limit
95-foot wingspan A Pitkin County Code restriction, not an aircraft performance question. It is the single fact that most often changes a trip plan.

Which field you leave from

South Florida is unusually well served for private departures, and the choice is mostly about ground time on the Miami end rather than anything about the flight. All of these are within about twenty nautical miles of each other, so the difference in air time to Aspen is negligible.

OPF
Miami-Opa Locka Executive

The default private field for Miami. Multiple full-service FBOs, no scheduled airline traffic to queue behind, roughly eleven miles north of downtown. This is where most Miami to Aspen trips actually begin.

TMB
Miami Executive

South of the city and the more convenient option if you are starting from Coral Gables, Pinecrest or the south end of the county. Generally quieter than Opa-locka.

FXE
Fort Lauderdale Executive

Worth considering if you are north of Miami proper. Dedicated general aviation field, and the ground time saved from Fort Lauderdale or Boca often exceeds anything you would gain elsewhere.

PBI
Palm Beach International

Marginally the shortest leg of the group to Aspen, and the natural departure for the Palm Beach season. Shares the field with airline traffic, so allow for it.

Miami International handles private movements as well, but for a trip like this it rarely offers an advantage over Opa-locka.

IIIFlying into Aspen

What constrains an arrival at ASE

Aspen is one of the more demanding airports in North America to operate into, and the reasons are worth understanding before you are quoted an aircraft that cannot legally land there.

Wingspan
Maximum 95 feet, tip to tip A Pitkin County Code limit, not a performance question. It excludes a Gulfstream G650 at about 99 feet and a Global 7500 at about 104 feet.
Field
7,820 feet, one runway Runway 15/33 at 8,006 feet. Adequate on its own; combined with the elevation and surrounding terrain it becomes limiting for heavier aircraft.
Hours
0700 to 2300 local Stage III aircraft may operate from 30 minutes after sunset until 2300. No departures after 2230. A dinner-time departure from Florida in December can become an arrival you are not permitted to make, so it is worth checking before the flight is booked, not after.

Crew qualification, the FAA modification of standard behind the wingspan rule and the full set of operating limits are covered on the private aviation hub.

Planning around the weather

Winter arrivals into Aspen divert. Not often enough to change your plans, but often enough that a trip built with no slack in it will eventually be the one that fails. Snow, low ceilings and wind are the usual causes, and the decision is normally made in the air rather than the day before.

When ASE is not usable, aircraft commonly go to Rifle (RIL) at about sixty miles, Eagle County (EGE) at about seventy, or Grand Junction (GJT) at about a hundred and twenty-five. Each is a drive of roughly an hour to two hours into Aspen, in winter conditions, usually at short notice.

Two practical consequences. First, morning departures out of Aspen are generally more reliable than afternoon ones. Second, a diversion is a ground problem, not an air problem, which is the part we handle: if your aircraft lands at Rifle instead of Aspen, the useful thing is someone already driving toward Rifle rather than a phone call asking what you would like to do.

Worth knowing

Aspen airport closes for most of 2027

ASE will be closed from 11:00 p.m. on April 4, 2027 until 7:00 p.m. on November 19, 2027 for runway reconstruction. Winter 2026 to 2027 is unaffected. If you are planning spring or summer 2027, the flight routes through Rifle, Eagle, Grand Junction or Denver instead, and the drive becomes part of the trip.

VRepositioning

Repositioning flights

Aircraft move in and out of Aspen empty more often than most people realise, particularly at the front and back of holiday periods when the South Florida and Aspen seasons overlap. Through our aviation relationships, repositioning opportunities into and out of Aspen occasionally surface.

These are genuinely occasional and we do not hold inventory. If your dates have any flexibility, tell us and we will let you know if something appropriate appears.

VIOnce You Land

Your flight ends at the FBO. The trip does not.

This is the part we are actually responsible for. Aspen Privé is based here, and we take the ground side from the moment the aircraft is on approach.

Arrival

We track the tail number and stage vehicles to the aircraft, adjusting as the timing moves. If the flight diverts, we move with it.

Transportation

Drivers and vehicles for the length of the stay, sized to the group and the luggage rather than to a booking form.

The residence

Arranged through licensed local managers, then prepared, provisioned and staffed before anyone lands.

Dining

Reservations that are genuinely hard to get, private chefs, and dining at the residence.

The mountain

Gear fitted at the residence, lift access, instructors and ski school.

Everything else

Wellness, provisioning, celebrations, and the requests that do not fit a category. Ask anyway.

Common questions

Can a Gulfstream G650 land in Aspen?

No. Pitkin County Code limits aircraft at ASE to a tip-to-tip wingspan of 95 feet. The G650 is roughly 99 feet and the Global 7500 roughly 104 feet, so neither is permitted regardless of performance. This is the constraint most likely to change which aircraft you fly.

How long is the flight from Miami to Aspen?

Around three hours and forty-five minutes to four and a half hours westbound, depending on aircraft and winds aloft. The return is usually faster. The great-circle distance from the South Florida private fields is roughly 1,540 to 1,560 nautical miles.

Is there a curfew at Aspen airport?

Yes. The airport operates between 0700 and 2300 local. Stage III aircraft may operate from 30 minutes after sunset until 2300, and no departures are permitted after 2230. This is the reason a late-afternoon departure from Florida in midwinter needs checking before it is booked.

What happens if the flight diverts?

You land at Rifle, Eagle or Grand Junction and drive in, typically one to two hours. We treat this as a ground problem and prefer to have a vehicle already moving toward the alternate rather than waiting for the aircraft to land before organising one.

Does Aspen Privé arrange the aircraft?

No. We are not an operator or a broker and we do not sell flights. We coordinate everything around your stay in Aspen, and where you need the flight itself arranged we will introduce you to established charter operators and stay involved on the ground side.
