The Aspen Art Museum is free, in a Shigeru Ban building opened in 2014, with a rooftop sculpture garden. The Wheeler Opera House (1889, 503 seats) hosts music, comedy, film and talks all year. Down the road, Anderson Ranch in Snowmass Village has taught artists since 1966. In summer, the Aspen Music Festival fills the town.

Founded in 1966 by the ceramicist Paul Soldner, about 8 miles from Aspen. Workshops in ceramics, painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, furniture and digital fabrication; summer workshops, a January intensive, an artist residency, exhibitions, lectures and an annual art auction.
