Spring skiing in Aspen

Longer days, softer snow, lower prices and the occasional huge storm. Why late season is many regulars' favourite time in Aspen.

Aspen Snowmass's 2026–27 season is scheduled to run to April 18, 2027. Late season brings lower lift-ticket prices, longer lift hours and, as Aspen Snowmass puts it, anything from 40-degree bluebird days to big storm cycles. It's quieter than February, and the light lasts into the evening.

Late season, by the numbers

Season ends: April 18, 2027 (Aspen Snowmass, all mountains' dates announced later).
Late-season tickets: In 2026, adult lift tickets were $98 from March 28 to closing, with lodging packages through Stay Aspen Snowmass.Discounted child, teen and senior rates too. 2027 pricing is announced in spring.
Longer days: Select lifts run until 4 p.m. and the Silver Queen Gondola downloads as late as 4:30 p.m.
Easter 2027: Sunday March 28, 2027, which also falls in many spring-break weeks: expect a busier week around it.
Events: Free concerts, the Après Series, Ullr Nights and the Slash the Mass banked slalom at Snowmass (2026 programme).

How spring snow skis

Mornings firm, afternoons soft

Overnight freezes leave firm snow first thing; by late morning south-facing slopes soften. Start on the sunny side, finish on shaded runs.

Storms still happen

March can bring some of the season's biggest snowfalls. Pack for both a 40-degree day and a powder day.

Sun at altitude

The sun is stronger at 8,000–12,000 feet and reflects off snow. Sunscreen and good goggles are not optional.

Planning a late-season trip

Avoid the Easter crush or embrace it

The week around Easter and school spring breaks is the busy one. The weeks either side are quieter and often cheaper.

Spring is for families

Warmer days make first ski trips easier for children. Book ski school a month ahead as usual.

Closing weekend

The last weekend is a celebration on the mountain. If you want to be there for it, book the house early.
