An evening built around your table.

Private dining in Aspen: choose a restaurant event space or a chef at the residence. Compare privacy, menus, kitchen needs and the plan for the evening.

A private dinner can mean two very different things: a restaurant’s event space or a chef cooking at your residence. The better choice depends on how much privacy you need, the house you have booked and whether the evening should end at the table or continue elsewhere.

IThe decision

Choose the room before the menu

A restaurant event space
Useful when service, tableware and the kitchen belong to one venue. Confirm whether the room is exclusive, partially private or simply a large table in a public dining room.
Dinner at the residence
Useful when guests want to stay together without leaving the house. The kitchen, dining seats, parking, host’s rules and service support determine what is practical.
A tasting or wine-led evening
Ask about the format, pacing, dietary accommodations and final terms. The Little Nell publishes private wine-cellar experiences; the hotel confirms availability directly.
A larger reception
This is an event enquiry, not a normal dinner reservation. A guest list, service plan, noise rules and a real weather contingency come before decorative details.

The kitchen is part of the brief

For a private chef, send the address, guest count, dinner time and photographs or details of the kitchen. Share whether the residence has enough seats and tableware, and confirm access with the host. A rental listing’s dining photograph does not establish the event capacity.

Agree the menu and what the quote covers: ingredients, preparation, service, setup and cleanup. Discuss drinks separately. If extra staff, furniture or equipment are needed, those items need their own confirmed scope; they are not automatically included.

Questions that prevent the wrong booking

Privacy

Who else can enter the room, and can other guests hear the conversation? “Private dining” is not always an exclusive-use space.

The agreement

Get the deposit, cancellation deadline, menu requirements and any minimum spending in writing. Ask what happens if the party shrinks.

The last hour

Confirm the finish time and onward plans. A birthday speech, presentation or amplified music may change the venue’s requirements.

Access and comfort

Share mobility needs, children and allergies before committing. Check where the driver can collect the group.

IVThe evening

A simple sequence that leaves room to enjoy it

For a dinner at the house, keep arrival drinks separate from the kitchen’s final preparation and leave time for guests who are coming from different flights or activities. For a venue, set the pickup around the confirmed seating time rather than treating it as an afterthought.

I coordinate the dining request and the Aspen side of the evening. You approve the plan and prices first. For a surprise or milestone, tell me what should stay private; birthday planning and proposal logistics need a different brief from a normal group dinner.

Common questions

Do you have exclusive restaurant access?

No exclusive access is claimed. Venues confirm their own availability, spaces and contracts.

Can a chef cook at our rental?

Usually the property must allow it, and the chef needs a suitable kitchen and access. We check these before confirming the plan.

Is a private room the same as a buyout?

No. Confirm exactly which space is exclusive and for what hours. A full buyout is a separate venue agreement.

Are extra staff and rentals included?

Only when explicitly included in your approved quote.
