Snowmass is a separate village at the base of the largest of the four mountains (3,362 acres), where about 95% of lodging is ski-in, ski-out: the choice for families and mixed-ability groups. Aspen is the historic town, with Aspen Mountain rising straight out of downtown and restaurants and nightlife on foot. They are about 20 minutes apart, linked by free RFTA buses, and one ticket covers all four mountains.

Ski school, rentals and childcare at the base, and lodging on the snow: nobody carries skis through town.
Beginners, confident skiers and experts can all ski the same mountain and meet for lunch.
Snowmass is larger than the other three mountains combined, so a week never runs out of terrain.
Walk to dinner at Bosq, Matsuhisa or Element 47, and home again. Aspen restaurants.

Many families do both: ski-in, ski-out in Snowmass, and a driver for the nights in Aspen. Arrange evening drivers.
Aspen is the summer center: the Music Festival, Food & Wine, the Maroon Bells shuttle from Aspen Highlands and the gondola from town. Snowmass has its own summer of mountain biking and events. Either works; Aspen is closer to most of it. Summer 2027.
Snowmass for families and mixed-ability groups who want ski-in, ski-out on the largest mountain; Aspen for walkable dinners, nightlife and Aspen Mountain from town. A free bus links them.
