Aspen vs Park City

Both are world-class. Here is an honest comparison, and who each one suits.

Park City Mountain is the largest single resort in the US at 7,300 acres on the Epic Pass, about a 35-minute drive from Salt Lake City International. Aspen is four mountains (about 5,480 acres) on the Ikon Pass, with more vertical and a smaller, more exclusive town.

Mountain statistics are each resort's published figures; pass and travel details from the resorts, Ikon, Epic and the airports. Checked October 2, 2026.

How you arrive

The journey

Park City is about 35 minutes from Salt Lake City International. Aspen is a connecting flight into ASE, or about four hours from Denver in winter.

Aspen's airport

ASE is a few minutes from town, with commercial and private flights. It closes April 4 to November 19, 2027 for runway work, so late-season spring trips should check dates. Airport closure.

IIIOff the slopes

The town and the evenings

Aspen

A Victorian mining town with a real year-round life: restaurants led by a Michelin star, galleries, the Aspen Art Museum and a late après scene. Aspen restaurants.

Park City

A historic silver-mining town with a lively Main Street, the Sundance Film Festival history and easy reach of Salt Lake City; busier and more suburban than Aspen.

Non-skiers

Aspen gives non-skiers more to do: spas, shopping, snowshoeing and sleigh dinners. Aspen for non-skiers.

IVCost

What it costs

Passes

If you already hold Ikon or Epic, the pass often decides the trip. Window tickets at both are expensive; check each resort's current prices for your dates.

Lodging

Aspen is consistently one of the most expensive ski towns in North America, especially over the holidays. We don't publish average prices we can't verify. What an Aspen trip costs.

VOur view

Who each suits

Choose Aspen if

you want more vertical and higher terrain, a more exclusive town, or four distinct mountains for a mixed group.

Choose Park City if

you want the easiest big-airport access in American skiing, hold an Epic Pass, or want sheer acreage; Deer Valley is also next door.

Honestly

For a short trip from a major city, Park City's access is a genuine advantage. For a week where the town, the service and the variety matter, Aspen is the stronger choice.
